Happy Holidays

Wow! Christmas has come and gone. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I know I did. I spent my Christmas with my family on Christmas eve and Christmas day with my husband’s family. I wish all of you and your families a Safe and Happy New Year!

Onto my post for today…….Helping the environment! I was searching the web and I have visited Daisy Janie and Green Bag Lady several times in the past, but haven’t visited recently.  Here’s a little clip from her post…..

“In the US, an additional 5 million tons of waste is generated during the holidays. Four million tons of this is wrapping paper and shopping bags.”
~ From Clean Air Council, Waste Facts & Figures. The waste statistics alone will make you want to either crawl under a rock or, hopefully, motivate you to consider ways to reduce your waste throughout the year.”

The Green Bag Lady, Teresa VanHatten-Granath, is definitely on the motivated side of things, and she created the Green Grocery Bag Challenge as an extension to her year-round efforts to get consumers to reduce their use of single-use plastic bags.

The Green Grocery Bag Challenge is a holiday sewing project benefiting Mother Earth. Its mission is to encourage sewists to wrap their holiday gifts in reusable cloth grocery bags, thus reducing the amount of wrapping paper entering the waste stream, while simultaneously getting multi-use bags into the hands of gift recipients. Want to get involved? Visit The Green Grocery Bag Challenge Facebook page, where you’ll find links to tutorials, videos and other inspiration.
She also has a post on Reusable Bag Ediquette.
Both ladies have Free Downloadable patterns to make your own grocery bags from scrap fabric.  I have tons of scrap fabric and I’m going to start making some for myself and start using them to wrap gifts instead of buying gift bags.  Why not give a gift that they can keep on using!
